| NAFFAA and other Filipino Veterans advocacy groups have worked in the last 19 years to restore dignity and justice for our Filipino veterans. This year is our best chance to achieve that. On Wednesday, June 27, 2007, the US Senate Veterans Affairs Committee will vote on the Filipino Veterans Equity Act or S.57. They will decide whether to move this bill to full Senate vote or kill the bill. I AM ASKING EACH ONE OF YOU to call and request each committee member to support S.57. Please refer to the list below for names and phone numbers, sample letter(click on the letter to get a pdf file which you can print) and other details. You can still call tomorrow but do it today if you can! --- Tessie Atayde, Chair - NAFFAA region 7 |
The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee will be preparing for a markup on Wednesday, June 27. We need to put pressure on them to make sure this bill moves out of the Committee to the floor for consideration by the entire Senate. Please call the Senators in the Veterans Affairs Committee to urge them to support passage of the Filipino Veterans Equity Act (S.57). The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee list is included below. If you live in any of the states represented by the Senators, your call is even more important. It does not matter whether you live in the state or not- each call to every Senator counts! We encourage you to tell the Senators how important the Filipino Veterans Equity Act is to you. If you are directly connected to a Filipino veteran, let them know the impact this bill has for you. We encourage you to tell the Senate that the time is NOW to restore honor and dignity to the brave Filipino Veterans and fulfill the promise the U.S. government made to them when they were drafted into the United States Armed Forces of the Far East. Let the Senate know if you and your family are affected by this bill and please make the following points: The1946 Rescission Act took away U.S. Veterans status promised to them and the Filipino Veterans Equity Act will not only restore this status, but will give them the honor and recognition of their service that they deserve. Nationals from more than 60 other countries receive U.S. veterans status- Filipinos were singled out for discriminatory treatment. All of our veterans deserve to be treated the same- we are committed to full and equal benefits in line with what U.S. veterans currently receive. Pass the Equity Act NOW! You can make a difference by calling the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee today! |
